Existing Site Condition and Project Plan
Pond Excavation and Cleanout
The client’s pond had not been maintained for over 20 years, leading to a significant buildup of muck, debris, and silt.
We utilized a combination of heavy machinery, specifically a large excavator with a 30-foot reach capable of digging to an 8-foot depth, as well as a large skid steer to assist with material handling and transportation.
Preparation and Process
Before our excavation work began, the client took an important preparatory step by pumping out the majority of the pond’s water. This allowed us easier access to the bottom of the pond and minimized delays that can occur when working in wet conditions.
The next phase involved deepening the pond and removing the years of accumulated muck and debris from the bottom and sides. As expected, the pond’s bottom had layers of thick sediment, making it a longer and more intricate task than originally planned.
Excavation and Cleanout
Once the water from the pond was pumped, we used the excavator to carefully scoop out the pond bed layer by layer, placing the wet material along the edges for dewatering. This approach allows the excess water to drain out naturally, making the dirt easier to handle and relocate later on.
Material Disposal
All the excavated muck and debris were moved to a designated dump area provided by the client. Once the dewatering process is complete, the client may opt to further manage the material on-site as they see fit.

We successfully completed the comprehensive pond cleanout in Byron, NY, addressing 20 years’ worth of accumulated dirt and debris. The outcome is a significantly clearer and wider pond, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the area. Please see below the pictures of the final transformation.
