Asphalt Driveway and Concrete Walkway Project in Batavia New York
Project Overview
A homeowner in Batavia, Genesee County, New York, reached out to us through Google to give their property a refreshed and functional look. They wanted a new 1,000-sq.ft. asphalt driveway (50ftx20ft) to the other side of their lawn and connect it to their home with a new 280-sq.ft. concrete walkway. Additionally, they also wanted a concrete pad (12.5ftx12.5ft) under the stairs on the side of their house.
To complete the transformation, the project also included partial demolition of their existing concrete driveway (55ftx5.5ft) to turn it into a walkway and the removal of sections of an older concrete walkway (70ftx3ft) near the new driveway area.

How We Completed the Project

Concrete Pad and Walkway
We started by preparing the site for the concrete pad and walkway, working simultaneously with the new asphalt driveway location. This involved excavating and grading the area for a stable and even foundation.
After we prepared the area, we supplied, delivered, and applied 6 tons of #1 Crusher Run. We then apply stone 4 inches thick, properly graded, compacted, and rolled.
We supplied, delivered, and applied 5 yards of 4,250 PSI concrete with reinforced fibers, 4 inches thick ensuring a smooth finish on the concrete surface. We then cut control joints and removed forms after the concrete cures.
Asphalt Driveway Site Preparation
For the new asphalt driveway, we excavated and graded the area, ensuring a stable base for the construction. We then installed geotextile fabric to prevent soil movement and laid a 25 ton of gravel layer to the freshly excavated areas. The stone was meticulously graded, compacted, and rolled for optimal stability.
Demolition and Site Restoration of Existing Concrete Driveway & Walkway
Demolition of the walkways was done simultaneously with the preparation of the new concrete walkway. The chipped concrete was removed, and the site was cleaned up. To transform part of the old driveway into a walkway, we saw-cut and chipped away the concrete, removing all remnants. This phase followed the completion of the new concrete walkway.
We will then prepare the areas as necessary for the application of new topsoil since the area will not be constructed with concrete and needs to be restored. We delivered 10 yards of triple-screened topsoil and applying 4 inches of topsoil, which will be raked to ensure a level surface. Seeding is included as part of this service.
Asphalt Driveway Asphalt Installation
We then wait 24-36 hours up to a week to ensure no settling occurs. Then, we supply, deliver, and apply 15 tons of hot asphalt Type 6F Top Asphalt to the prepared area.
